SURREY FIRST COUNCIL CANDIDATE TAJ SANDHU WITHDRAWS FROM MUNICIPAL RACE

SURREY, B.C. (March 20, 2026): Surrey First council candidate Taj Sandhu announced today that he is withdrawing from this October’s municipal election. The decision follows Sandhu’s choice to designate his residence in Port Coquitlam, rather than his property in Surrey, as his primary residence.

“I was recently made aware of concerns from a few residents regarding my primary place of residence,” said Sandhu. “While I have maintained deep community roots and business ties in Surrey for over 25 years, I recognize that stepping down is the right course of action to ensure the focus remains on the issues facing our city. I know this news may be a disappointment to the many loyal supporters and well-wishers who have stood by me, and I am deeply grateful for their encouragement. However, I do not want my residency status to detract from the Surrey First campaign, and I wish Linda Annis and the entire team every success this October.”

Surrey First councillor and mayoral candidate Linda Annis praised Sandhu’s professionalism and commitment to the team’s integrity.

“I know this was a difficult decision for Taj,” noted Annis. “At the same time, Surrey First is committed to a slate of candidates who call Surrey home. I appreciate Taj’s transparency and his ongoing support for our team.”

Annis confirmed that a new candidate will be named in the coming days to round out the Surrey First slate.
